The original Winnie-the-pooh illustrations are something that are always used again and again - although the image of winnie the pooh and other characters was updated for the cartoons, the original illustrations with their line quality and, what appears to be watercolour, give the books a more homely, personal feel and actually look more sophisticated than the more recent ones that used block colour etc.

These Wind in the willows illustrations have the same effect as the Winnie the pooh ones as they have the same line quality and colour. I think the fact these illustrations have been used for so long also create a thread between the generations reading it - if a grandparent reads a book to their grandchild with these illustrations, they might be reminded of their childhood while the grandchild is living their childhood and it could go on for generations.
